This was the epithet on one of the many 'motivational' posters which were plastered over the walls of the teaching rooms where I used to work in Sussex Police's Training and Conference Centre. It's popped back into my head right now, as Andy and I get to grips with just how much there is to do, and think about, in 'letting go of the shore'! Planning FOR the trip is one thing - innoculations, visa applications, insurance arrangements, maps, guides, etc. etc. - but having to work out how to keep our 'Merry Cottage world' ticking over for three months in our absence, is another aspect of this 'big trip' that has taken up much of our of our time over the past several weeks. However, with just over a week to go (we leave from Heathrow on 4 Oct), it looks as though we've sorted out most things, and we can start to let go of the shore and look forward to our new horizons ahead.
We hope to post occasional blogs once we get over to Indo-China, and it would be great to hear from you as we travel around Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia.
That's so exciting: Mark Twain once said "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones that you did. Do throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." Look forward to reading updates. David
ReplyDeleteWe agree with David's sentiments and quotation, but will Andy and Barbara remember they're disappointed in 20 years time in their special room in the Six Bells!!!?

As I travel cautiously from east Bedford to north-west Bedford each day, I shall take off my baseball cap to you intrepid people! And to think there are folks who object to travelling halfway across this small county to get to my umpire-training! Goodness gracious!
ReplyDeleteAnyway I shall stop rambling on, at least in this blog.
Very best wishes,
Paul x
AND you've been to Drusilla's Zoo!! Have a wonderful trip - especially the last week!! Love Cynth
ReplyDeleteAs you prepare for departure is the time for some sound advice, but instead I found this. "When preparing to travel, lay out all your clothes and all your money. Then take half the clothes and twice the money." -- Susan Heller
ReplyDeleteWe'll keep your Friday night pint warm for until you get back.
