Did we mention James Bond?

Oh yes, the driver of the long-tail boat on which we travelled around the Khlongs in Bankok was at pains to ensure that we all knew, and told all our friends, that it was HIS particular boat which featured in the James Bond movie, Die Another Day.   (Can't help wondering how many other long-tail boat drivers say the same to their passengers.)   Andy, though, was less impressed by that, not least because neither of us has ever seen any James Bond films, than with the lack of any safety measures around the engines on the back of these boats    Huge great 3-litre turbo diesels, whose 5 metre drive-shaft formed the'long tail' which drove a massive turbo-prop under the water, with a completely unprotected cooling fan running at about 3,000 rpm just inches from shredding the elbow of the driver!

  1. Well, now your boat driver can cite your blog in support of his claim, after all, we all know that if it's on the Web then it must be true!

  2. For shame, never seen a Bond movie! Don't like that kind of fiction!? You read the Guardian for Heavens sake! And the Observer! Sending you in plain, brown paper.... back copies of the War Cry!
